Hotel Martí, Guantanamo, Cuba

The Martí Hotel is a construction of Art Deco style, located in the Historical Centre of the Guantánamo City, in corner of Calixto Garcia and Aguilera facing of the Central Park Jose Martí. The construction has a high patrimonial level of protection acquired by its history and location. At the moment the hotel is out of service to be subjected to a process of general repair and investments.
Hotel Martí small desk, lobby, restaurant and a wide kitchen are located on the first level of the building. The second level hosts all the guest rooms, ordered in a horseshoe form and for their center, a stairway that leads to the roof of the building.
In the new conception of the enhancement of Hotel Martí the following revisions are included to improve the conditions of habitability and comfort:
- Maintain the dimensions of the rooms, but the bathrooms will enlarge their actual width up to 1.20m, fulfilling the norm 127:2001.
- Preserve the interior space of the second level, where is located the stairway that drives to the terrace, propitiating the ventilation with windows and the use of the natural illumination by means of a translucent roof.
- Locate the principal access of the Hotel Marti in the bevel of the corner and this way it would be possible to enable the current entrance as a service entrance.
- The restaurant will be acclimatized and a new set of artificial illumination will be added, the kitchen will be integrate to the elaboration center of the cafeteria “America”.
- A new lobby bar will be added.
- The restaurant with capacity for 30 places will be prepared with necessary gastronomic equipment to serve international and traditional food.
Finally the hotel will have 30 rooms with private bathrooms. From the rooms of the Hotel Martí the guests will be able to enjoy beautiful views of the historical center of the city of Guantánamo especially the Central Park José Martí.
It is foreseen that the Hotel Martí like a completely rejuvenated installation and with new facilities opens their doors once again for the second semester of the year 2008. The Hotel Martí will operate in the modality of cultural tourism and will be operated by Islazul Hotels.
